chapter 35: climate change

Climate change is referred to as the change in the global climate. The Earth’s climate is in flux and we know this from taking core samples from glaciers and studying geology. The Earth’s climate has been both warmer and cooler than the current climate, and it gets warmer and cooler in the future as well.

So what is the big deal over climate change?

Natural climate change is a slow process occurring over tens of thousands of years, only accelerated by rare and extreme events like a supervolcano eruption. Since humans learned how to burn dead plants and animals (fossil fuels) for energy, climate change has accelerated beyond natural changes. In the past 200 years, the climate has changed significantly by the rapid increase in greenhouse gasses. So fast is this change that is possibly causing mass extinction of animals and plant life, and will have a major impact on you and your children’s lives.

Below is a list of possibilities that climate change will bring in the coming decades. The list is not conclusive or prophecy, it covers the most likely outcomes to the Earth due to rapid climate change.
